Heh - "conditions were so poor".... You mean like, it was raining BULLETS! :-D I'm always amazed that the bottom line of these escapades is not that the lower classes fight, but that they walk into a hail of deadly metal willingly!

But thanks for posting this in any case. It's good to run across this. Yes, I fly (I'm looking through your stuff for FSX info), but I also live on the planet and am very curious about what I call our political-ecology; the fact that we are all in this together but can't seem to see past our own noses and get along.

Thanks!

There is a crappy sort of way. If you modify the script I mention in the post to have the first line be

aircrafttweak.exe install_variant_by_path "c:\games\fs9\aircraft\HJG707" "HJG Boeing 707-320 v6" ".\source.txt" /COPY_TEXTURE_FOLDERS

you can force AircraftTweak to not search for the aircraft but rather open the aircraft.cfg file that exists in a particular folder (in this case it is in c:\games\fs9\aircraft\HJG707). This will inject the repaint for you (all the other options discussed above apply), but you are going to have to guess where the aircraft is installed when you are writing the script.

Comment on 90th Anniversary of the Seattle General Strike by davenunez

Hi Christina

I am no expert on Seattle labour history (or any history for that matter), but I can give you some leads to read. First off, always keep in mind that the labor struggles of the early 1900s were very rough - workers lived in conditions of almost poverty, they were angry, and the bosses were nervous and authoritarian; the police were in their pockets and tensions always ran high. It was a dangerous time for everyone.

For entertainment, people would read (especially the pamphlets and labor union run newspapers), and I know people sung a lot. One of the most famous songwriters of the time was Joe Hill, and if you look online for a guy called Utah Phillips, he sang Hill's songs until recently, so you should be able to get his music at the library or itunes or whatever - If you can get an album called "We have fed you all for a thousand years", that has some interesting stuff (Phillips tells stories inbetween the songs). As far as books goes, just today I saw a new book on the seattle general strike written by Harvey O'Connor, who was there at the time - it is called "Revolution in Seattle: A memoir"; it seems very good (i am sorry I didn't buy it, not sure why I put it back on the shelf). It should be particularly good for your purpose because it is a primary reference (that is, written by someone who actually witnessed the events first hand). Other than that, another book that will give you the flavour of the labour movement in those days is John Steinbeck's novel "In dubious battle" (which is quite short), and tells teh story of union organizers in the california fruit fields (not Seattle, but a lot of the thinking and lifestyle would have been the same).

The university of washington carries a good website on the topic (http://depts.washington.edu/labhist/strike/). It is run by James Gregory, professor of history there (gregoryj@u.washington.edu) - I'm sure he can direct you to one of his students who would be much better suited to giving you a hand with your work. Another email address to try is his Seattle Civil Rights and Labour History Project (civilr@u.washington.edu).

Good luck on your assignment! It is an interesting topic, I hope you learn something interesting from it.
