And as far as I know this will be the last Nunez to leave the CVC lab too. Last night we had a graduation bash for a couple of students (myself included) at Panchos, where we all drank just a little too much – but what a blast. A little odd too, sort of like attending your own Irish wake, but being able to enjoy it along with everyone else. Sayonara CVC!
And now some history for you little CVC students – Edwin now has a great web page (complete with picture of him walking into the sunset, very professorial-chic), but his old page (now officially called The (in)famous 1998 page) was not quite so polished. Even worse, some unknown person hacked it by adding a Dilbert cartoon with poor Edwin’s face pasted into it (I want to say ‘photoshopped in’, but this was done in ’99, long before photoshop rules the waves of photographic forgery):
What dastardly daring! Who would dare such an affront!?!
Well, I should not say, but it may or may not have been a parting gift from the elder Nunez (so unconfirmed report say). CVC had suddenly grown a lot in one year (’99 – my first year there), and Edwin was trying to institute proper lab meetings – but knowing that code monkeys hate meetings, he sweetened the deal by offering to pay for donuts at meetings if someone else would actually do the physical buying of them. After this proclamation one balmy Thursday evening, the Nunez in question noticed that Edwin had for some reason chmodded his web space to 777, and so the gears of dissent began to spin. Oh, how clearly I remember him pasting Edwin’s photo into that comic. He was especially pleased at how he managed to make poor Edwin look happy in frame 1, and then disappointed in frame 3, all using just a single photo as the source.
Apologies Ed – we did actually enjoy being in the lab with you 😉
