Dr Katz was a Comedy Central show which aired in the late 90’s. The premise was: Dr Katz is a therapist, and his patients are all comedians plkaying themselves. So the therapy sessions were like mini comedy shows. Some big names appeared on the show – Sarah Silverman, Dave Chapelle, and some smaller ones like Ron Lynch too. Apart from that, there was always a smaller storyline of Dr Katz and his secretary and son Ben (a 25 year old slacker who watches TV all day and still manages to get himself into trouble). As the seasons progressed, the importance of Ben and the doctor moved to the front of the episodes.
The best thing about Dr Katz was the art – it was a very simple low res cartoon, but the artists aded little visual side notes as the characters spoke (the art was planned after the audio was recorded, so you get a sort of “director’s commentary by art” as you go). Here are some of my favorites:
