So we have gotten into the habit of going to the Black Bear Diner in Overlake for Sunday brunch (since early January, anyway).
The menu is pretty huge, but I normally end up having the ‘Small Volcano’ – eggs, bacon, pork sausage and pancakes. It looks like this:
Normally this brunch has you done until dinner time (a light dinner time, mind you). Well, today we drove up as normal, but noticed very few cars parked outside. As we got out of the car, this guy tells us that the diner has gone out of business – apparently they were only really selling on the weekends. But, lo and behold, he is actually the manager of the Denny’s accross the street, and he gave us a 20% off coupon for breakfast – he was basically camping outside trying to convert everyone over to Denny’s. I wanted the breakfast diner experience and Denny’s doesn’t exactly fit that bill, so we went to Crossroads mall instead, and had breakfast at the Crossroads Cafe, which is all stainless steel and neon lights. We have a similar breakfast – eggs, bacon, pancakes and pretty good coffee, and it was actually quite a bit cheaper. This may turn out to be the new Sunday brunch place. It also has the advantage that Half Price Books is right there for a postpraindial waddle.
this mades me saaaaaad, oh small volcano and heavy coffee mugs – how i will miss you!!
